それでは、連載第5回開幕です！　今回のテーマはですね……みなさん大好き「愛犬・こてつについて」でございますううう！

“ちび”との別れと、こてつとの出会い

まずはこてつとの出会い、お迎えした経緯をお話ししていこうと思うのですが、その前になぜワンちゃんを飼おうと思ったのかについてお話しさせてくださいませ。

父方のおばあちゃん家が兵庫県にあるのですが、そのお家に“ちび”という柴犬がいてですね、自分が物心ついたときにはもう、ベストフレンドと言わんばかりに仲がよかったのです。

自分の父方の家族も、母方の家族も昔からワンちゃんを飼っていて、自分とベストフレンドになったちびは「2号」でした。というのも、自分が生まれる前にちび1号がいたらしく、写真も見せてもらいましたが、ちび1号2号はうりふたつでした。

名前も“ちび”というだけあって、お迎えした当時はとても小さかったらしいのですが、すぐに普通サイズの柴犬になったらしいです。

そのちび2号は、自分が小学4年生のときに天国に旅立ちました。最期は直接見送ることはできなくて、メールで知らされて大号泣したのを今でも覚えています。

そして月日が経ち、中学生になった自分はひとりっ子ということもあり寂しく感じていたのと、家族全員ワンちゃんが大好きなので父親とペットショップに向かいました。

自分のまわりにいるワンちゃんたちは柴犬が多かったので柴犬を探しに行ったのですが、あるペットショップで柴犬の隣に生後3カ月のちっちゃいプードルがいました。

自分もそうですが、特に父親がひと目惚れしまして即決しました。それがこてつです。

懐かしい写真。かわいすぎる。

こてつという名前は父親が名づけたのですが、ワンちゃんを飼う前からどのワンちゃんを飼ったとしても、その名前にすることを決めていたそうです。なぜこてつなのかはわかりませんが、ぴったりです。なじむなじむ。

どこか“ちび”を感じることもあり、そういうときは「髙田家（我が家）に来てくれてありがとう」と、改めてこてつに感謝しています。

とにかくかわいいから、許してしまう

続いて、こてつの性格について語っていきます。こてつの性格は昔から甘えん坊で気分屋でグルメ野郎です。ご飯は今まで何回変えたかわからないくらい……。

今年で10歳になったので、走り回ることも少なくなりましたね。

最近のこてつくん。

寝るときは布団に潜ってきたり、出て行ったりを繰り返します。

先月の自分のバースデーイベントにも、こてつが遊びに来てくれて、初めてファンの方々にも直接会わせることができました。楽屋慣れはもうしております。ステージ慣れは、まだですね。

気分屋なので相手してほしいときはとことん甘えてくるのですが、そうじゃないときはスーパー猛犬です。それもまたかわいい。

さてここからは、こてつについての知識をいくつかお教えいたしますっ。

掃除機をかけるとき、ライバル意識をしているのかわからないのですが、必ず立ち向かってきます。すごくじゃまをしてきます。

今となっては、掃除機をかけていなくても「掃除機！」と言うだけでも、威嚇しております。自分に似て、甘えん坊で寂しがり屋なので、外出するときはいつも「連れてって！」とアピールしてきます。そのときは、一切猛犬にならずとても賢いです。すべてを悟っているかのようです。さすが。

ご飯を食べたあとはだいたいガムをねだってきます。ガムは細長い棒状のやつなのですが、自分で食べるときと、ちぎって遊び食べするときがあります。

寝息がかわいすぎます。本当に。寝るときはいつも顔付近にいるのでスーピースーピー聞こえるんです。

今は実家と東京でこてつとは離れ離れなのですが、たまに会うとしっかり覚えてくれているところもうれしいですね。こてつの中では、僕を下に見ていると思いますが。笑　とにかくかわいいので許します。

よく二足歩行するんですが、これがけっこう長めにキープするんですよ。

腰が心配だから気をつけてねって感じなのですが……。笑

こてつとは、中学3年間は一緒に暮らしましたが、実家を離れてからは離れ離れになったので、ちょくちょく会うくらいなのでちょっぴり寂しいです。でも会えたときの喜び、感謝を毎度感じられるので、これからもこてつとの日々を大切に過ごしていこうと思います。

すっかり髙田家になじんで、家族からも親戚からも愛されているこてつを見ていると癒やされます。これからも健康で、食べたいものを食べて長生きしてほしいですな。こてつの幸せを願っております。

それでは最後に、曲紹介をして終わろうと思います。

全然こてつとは関係ないのですが、曲名にも歌詞にも犬が入っているので紹介いたしますっ。

一回聴くと「犬かキャットかで死ぬまで喧嘩しよう！」というフレーズが頭から離れなくなります。

ヒゲダンさんは日頃から聴くのですが、本当に曲を作る技術も歌唱力も素晴らしいですね。ユニークな曲がたくさんあって飽きないです。

みなさんもぜひ「犬かキャットかで死ぬまで喧嘩しよう！」と、口ずさんでみてください。

ちなみに自分は犬派でっす。

The theme this time is… something you all love—my beloved dog, Kotetsu!!!!!

So, let’s dive in~

First, I’d like to talk about how I first met Kotetsu and how we ended up bringing him home.

But before that, let me tell you why we even wanted to get a dog in the first place.

My grandma on my dad’s side lives in Hyogo Prefecture, and she had a Shiba Inu named “Chibi.” Ever since I was little, Chibi and I were super close—like best friends.

Both my dad’s and mom’s families have always had dogs, and Chibi was technically Chibi #2.

Apparently there was a Chibi #1 before I was born—I’ve seen photos and they looked exactly alike.

As the name “Chibi” (which means “tiny”) suggests, she was a super tiny Mame Shiba when they first got her, but she quickly grew into a regular Shiba Inu.

Chibi #2 passed away when I was in fourth grade.

I couldn’t be there to say goodbye, and I still remember crying my eyes out when I got the news by email.

Time passed, and when I was in junior high, being an only child and with our whole family loving dogs, my dad and I went to a pet shop.

I was used to being around Shiba Inus, so we were actually looking for one.

But at one pet shop, right next to a Shiba puppy, there was a tiny 3-month-old Poodle.

Both my dad and I—especially my dad—fell in love at first sight and made a snap decision.

That’s how Kotetsu came into our lives.

So nostalgic. Too cute.

My dad named him Kotetsu.

Even before we got a dog, he had decided that no matter what kind we got, the name would be Kotetsu. I’m not really sure why, but it just fits him perfectly.

Sometimes he even reminds me of Chibi, and I’m just so thankful that Kotetsu became part of the Takata(our) family.

Now let me tell you a bit about Kotetsu’s personality.

He’s always been super clingy, a bit moody, and a total foodie.

We’ve changed his food so many times I’ve lost count…

He turned 10 years old this year, so he doesn’t run around as much anymore.

Here’s Kotetsu recently.

When he sleeps, he keeps diving under the covers and then coming back out—over and over again.

He even came to my birthday event last month, and it was the first time I got to introduce him directly to fans.

He’s already totally used to the backstage area.

Not quite used to the stage yet, though.

Since he’s moody, he’ll be super affectionate when he wants attention,

but when he doesn’t, he’s a little monster.

Still adorable though.

Here are a few fun facts about Kotetsu:

Whenever we vacuum, he always charges at it like it’s his rival. It’s total interference.

Nowadays, even if we’re not vacuuming, just saying “vacuum!” makes him run over and start growling at it.

He’s like me—clingy and hates being alone—so whenever I go out, he gives me that “Take me with you!” face.

At those times, he’s not fierce at all. He just quietly accepts it like he understands everything. So wise.

After meals, he always begs for a chew stick.

They’re these long stick-like dog treats, and sometimes he eats them properly, other times he tears them up while playing.

His little sleepy snores are the cutest thing ever. Truly. He always sleeps close to my face, so I can hear him go “suu-pii suu-pii” (snore sounds).

Now that I live in Tokyo and Kotetsu is back home, we’re apart.

But whenever we meet, he still remembers me clearly, which makes me so happy.

Although… I think he sees me as being below him in the hierarchy. Lol.

But whatever, he’s so cute I forgive him for everything.

He often walks on two legs, and for surprisingly long stretches, too.

I worry about his back though, so I want him to be careful…

I lived with Kotetsu for all three years of junior high,

but since then we’ve been apart, only seeing each other once in a while.

It makes me a little sad, but each reunion brings so much joy and gratitude.

I really want to keep cherishing my time with Kotetsu going forward.

Seeing how he’s completely part of the Takata family now—loved by everyone, including relatives—really warms my heart.

I hope he stays healthy, eats what he wants, and lives a long, happy life. Wishing for Kotetsu’s happiness, always.

To close, I’d like to introduce a song!

It’s not really related to Kotetsu, but since both the song title and lyrics mention dogs, I thought I’d share it.

Once you hear it, the phrase *“Let’s fight about dogs or cats until we die!”* will be stuck in your head forever.

I often listen to Higedan (Official HIGE DANDism)—their songwriting and vocals are just incredible.

They’ve got so many unique songs, I never get bored.

Everyone, try humming along to “Let’s fight about dogs or cats until we die!” sometime.

By the way, I’m totally Team Dog.

Cats are cute too, though.
